We pedaled a total of 354 miles over 6 days.
June 22-27, I am biking 335 miles from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC along the Great Allegheny Passage and Chesapeake & Ohio Canal to raise awareness for achromatopsia research and funding for a cure. My son was born with this rare genetic eye disease and recent clinicial trials have made a future cure a possible reality. Achromatopsia patients are day blind, have extreme sensitivity to light, poor acuity, nystagmus, and complete color blindness. Thank you for your support.

Day 1 Recap (6/22/17)
Here's a video recap of day 1 - 62 miles from Pittsburgh to Connellsville, PA (last two hours in darkness).
Long Day 1
Today was much longer than originally planned. Since the weather forecast is rain and thunderstorms most of Friday, we decided to ride 62 miles to Connellsville (vs our original 22 mile plan). Since we didn't get on the trail in Pittsburgh until 4pm, we ended up riding in the dark until after 11pm. It was a pretty tough day, but now we only need to go 17 miles tomorrow to Ohiopyle, PA. I'll post a compilation video tomorrow. Until tomorrow...

Getting Closer
An hour away from start point in Pittsburgh.
We changed our plans and riding 60 miles this afternoon/evening instead to avoid tomorrow's forecast major rain storm.

6 Days To Go
Lots of last minute logistics this weekend. I'll be picking up the rental van Wednesday evening for a Thursday morning departure to Pittsburgh. Biggest concern (which I have no control) is weather. Hopefully no major rain storms. Hoping to get a couple of more training rides in before I depart.

June 22-27, I am biking 335 miles from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC along the Great Allegheny Passage and Chesapeake & Ohio Canal to raise awareness and money for achromatopsia research and funding for a cure. My son was born with this rare genetic eye disease and recent clinicial trials have made a future cure a possible reality. My goal is to raise $10 per mile or $3,350. Achromatopsia causes the complete absence of cone photoreceptor function, the cells in our retina we rely on to read, to drive, to see faces and color, and to generally navigate through life. Achromatopsia patients are day blind, have extreme sensitivity to light, poor acuity, nystagmus (rapid uncontrolled eye movements), and complete color blindness. All funds raised will go directly to Achroma Corp (achromacorp.org) towards advancing a cure. Thank you for your support. Here is my fundraising site: https://www.crowdrise.com/biking-for-achromatopsia
I will be posting updates of my ride on this site.
